Participants of the Ulu Yam Landscaping Competition got their hands dirty on 29 November when 8 teams across various divisions in GSSC KL battled to create their unique gardens.

In conjunction with World Recycling Day, the Go Green Committee organized a Recycling Awareness Day at Menara LYL, Petaling Jaya on 27th Nov 2008. Mr. Jim Carey, GSSC KL’s Go Green Manco Champion delivered a speech, which was followed by a rendition of “What A Wonderful World” by Jumond Oliquiano and Clark Teorica Anaviso.

The visit to Kuala Gandah was an eye opener for many as it provided the participants and their children the opportunity to get close to the elephants and learn about the relocation work that the centre is involved in. It was a fantastic experience as the participants had the opportunity to learn more about elephants, handfeed them and go on rides. Towards the end of the visit, GSSC KL donated RM1500 towards the Kuala Gandah elephant conservation project.

The whole month of June was Environment Month for GSSC KL. Awareness pieces were broadcast and many activites were organized to drive home the point that Earth has reached unparalleled levels of global warming in its history, and that unless positive and conclusive action is taken rightaway, Mankind and the rest of the planet will not survive the drastic climate changes which are occuring.

In conjunction with our Environment Month, 100 GSSC KL staff participated in a project to clean-up the Selangor State Park at Ulu Yam, as part of our service to the community. Located north of Kuala Lumpur, in scenic foothills with cascading waterfalls, Ulu Yam is a popular picnic and recreation area for Malaysians.
