Standard Chartered Organizes Charity Run & Carnival 2006 For HIV/AIDS Children

Another Effort by The Bank To Raise Funds For Rumah Solehah and Rumah Wake

Kuala Lumpur, Monday, 2 September 2006 – Standard Chartered Bank has once again led the way in corporate responsibility by organising a fundraising Charity Run & Carnival 2006. The objective of this event is to raise funds for Rumah Solehah and Rumah Wake; the two homes that provide shelter and care for HIV/AIDS mothers and children.

Speaking after flagging off the runners, Head Global Shared Service Centre Kuala Lumpur (GSSC KL) and Chief Information Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad Edwin Nevis said, “For Standard Chartered, corporate responsibility is a serious commitment at group level and in country. In Malaysia, we continue to be recognized as one of the strongest advocates who have successfully improved the level of awareness, understanding and acceptance of HIV/AIDS in the community and also at the workplace.

“At Standard Chartered, we have a long history of supporting the communities in which we operate. Our involvement has helped to improve the quality of life in these communities. It remains our intent to lead by example in corporate responsibility which will continue to be an important part of the Bank.

“Each year we continue to improve and expand our ‘Living with HIV/AIDS’ initiatives. The charity run, which is running for its second year hopes to raise between RM20,000 – RM30,000 for the two homes from the sale of limited edition t-shirts, food and games coupons as well as personal donations from the staff, their families and friends.

Standard Chartered Bank’s engagement with Rumah WAKE and Rumah Solehah not only involved annual sponsorship for rent and provisions. The level of engagement include weekly activities between bank staff and the children such as reading, colouring, singing, tuition, handicraft class, field trips and picnics as well as home maintenance activities such as gardening, cleaning and painting.

Standard Chartered’s commitments to HIV/AIDS issue has been recognised through two consecutive winning of the Silver Quill Award by the International Association of Business Communicators for its 'Living with HIV/AIDS' programme since 2005.

Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad has also recently won an International Stevie Award in the 2nd Annual International Business Awards. Standard Chartered Malaysia has been recognised in the category of Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program.
